Having had trouble finding places to shoot myself in the past I thought my fullbore training range would provide a great location for all shooters to have a bit of fun and test themselves at longer ranges and in different conditions, not always available on club ranges.
I can comfortably accommodate 10 shooters rotating on the point, although there is enough room for all to shoot, I prefer it if shooters work in pairs or groups and spot for each particularly for the longer ranges, there is plenty of shooting time available, the range will run from approx. 10:00 – 15:00 – The cost is £75 per person.
The area is only accessible with a 4×4, we would normally have enough between us, but would ferry folks if necessary, you would be welcome to bring your own 4×4 vehicles if suitable, currently we can’t get right to the firing point so there is a 50m walk, that will improve with the weather.
The range goes out to 1000 yards with Hardox 500 targets at 210, 300, 375, 450, 500, 600, 700, 1000 with some additional targets still to be sighted once the weather allows. We have wooden targets at 100 yards (put up on the day) for a check zero, essential for peace of mind and a good start to the day.
Meet will be at 0945 at the Spar shop Strathdon (Jamie has a coffee machine and the normal Spar goods), load up the 4×4’s and move up on to the hill, about 10 minutes drive. Shooting will start at 10:30 ish and will finish by 15:00. There are 4 platforms to shoot from and the surrounding ground for those that want to shoot close to nature. You are welcome to bring shooting benches and place them on the point. You can also fire from sticks, bipods, tripods etc.
A range brief will be given at the start just so all shooters are on the same song sheet. We will be going forward of the firing point at times to see our zeroing targets. It is essential that we police ourselves on the point and look out for each other, that way all can have a nice, relaxed shoot.
You can bring all your firearms up to 308 in calibre but just one on the point at any one time and rotate with others.
I have 3 x 6.5 CM and 1 x 308 Sabatti’s that I am happy to bring along for use, these are more than capable of hitting 1000 yards depending on the conditions (and the firer!) ammo is £1.75 per round which also takes into account the wear and tear.
I have ammunition for sale if needed, S&B .223 @ £55 for a box of 100 and 6.5 CM at £25 for 140g FMJ and £26.50 for 142g hpbt and some S&B .308. Let me know in advance if you need a top up and I will do what I can.
I am happy to provide coaching and get great satisfaction from seeing the results. I have had a number of clients over the past 3 years that have held firearms for long periods of time but not really put them to the test – this could be the opportunity.
The weather can be quite unpleasant at times (really!) and if I think you won’t get the benefit from the day I will suggest cancelling. I have a couple of gazebos which are good at their job but if the wind and rain are on then it’s a bit grim.
If you are a competition shot your experience is welcome and appreciated if passed on, if you are a novice its your opportunity to soak the knowledge up and see your shooting improve, the sound of a steel gong at a long range is very satisfying!
